It’s nice to see that the iTunes affiliate program finally has a home on the web. There are lots of great tools for developers.

Bonding with the Auto-Tuner →
We just had some excellent father/daughter bonding this afternoon with the I Am T-Pain app on the iPhone. Sophia improvised a tune into the app and this is what came out. Check it out by clicking here.

San Francisco Demographics
The July/August 2009 issue of 7x7 magazine was the so-called neighborhood issue. In it is a decent catalog the major San Francisco neighborhoods: from the Haight to the Marina to the Castro. The articles are complete with the requisite, stereotypical neighborhood photos. But interestingly, they include some demographic data. I’m sure most folks who flipped through the issue glanced at the...

Releasing of the ladybugs at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens.
The staff at the Learning Garden released 70,000 ladybugs with the aid of around 50 kids. They learned a little lesson about organic pest control. The poor aphids didn’t see it coming.
Christian just moved to the sixth floor of the Gramercy Towers. This short clip is of the view from his living room.

Polka Night!
Last Friday night I decided to take the family to Polka night at Schroeder’s German Restaurant in San Francisco. To date, I’d only ever gone to Schroeder’s for two types of events: Cal Football or St. Patrick’s Day revelry. Whether it was a Big Game pre-party or St. Patrick’s Day, the reason to go to Schroeder’s is always to have access to a good selection of...

Sundance '09
We just got back from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. This was the first time I’d gone and we had a fantastic time. I can’t believe I’d never gone to Sundance before. It is the perfect outing for me. Riding my snowboard and going to the movies are my two favourite activities and visiting Park City this week allowed me to enjoy them both. I spent the mornings and...

Yalda →
In Iran, the night of the winter solstice is celebrated by staying up late, eating a lot of fruit and reciting classical poetry.
Following the fall of the Sassanid Empire and the subsequent rise of Islam, the religious significance of the event was lost, and like other Zoroastrian festivals, Yalda became a social occasion when family and close friends would get together. Nonetheless, the...
Shoethrowers of the world untie and take over →
Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) — The shoe hurled at President George W. Bush has sent sales soaring at the Turkish maker as orders pour in from Iraq, the U.S. and Iran.
The brown, thick-soled “Model 271” may soon be renamed “The Bush Shoe” or “Bye-Bye Bush,” Ramazan Baydan, who owns the Istanbul-based producerBaydan Ayakkabicilik San. & Tic., said in a telephone interview today.
“We’ve been...
Cherry Chapstick Crush
I’m not one for pop music. For the most part I dislike it with a passion. I have ever since I started listening to KROQ in Los Angeles in the fifth grade. I will admit to buying Thriller on LP back in the eighth grade. And I also remember buying Duran Duran’s Notorious on cassette early in high school. But that’s it! Everything else is alternative, electronic, classic rock,...
Live, Work, Shop
Financial Times: Live, Work, Shop
To walk the streets of Santana Row is to confront a melange of architectural styles and cultural references. Jan Sweetman, a vice-president at developer Federal Realty, says designers were sent to France and Europe to source ideas before blueprints were drawn up. Several architects were contracted to work on different buildings to avoid a “Disneyland-type...
Uncorked
The other night I rounded up a few co-workers to head over to a wine tasting by Uncorked Events. I’d been to two tasting by them previously and they’re always a good time. This time the theme was Summer Down Under: The Wines of Australia and New Zealand. About 15 friends showed up to taste the 110 different wines they had on display. My favourite? The Chambers Muscat dessert wine and...
Worlds colliding
Arianna Huffington says I should blog about my secret passions. If I did that, they wouldn’t be secret anymore, right? They’d become my normal passions. And everyone knows I don’t hold back enough on sharing those as it is. I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable with those two worlds colliding. I’m not sure if you’d be comfortable with that either. The thing...
Best birthday ever?
Did I just have the best birthday ever? Quite possibly. If nothing else, it was the smuggest and definitely one of the busiest in recent memory.
Friday
Started the morning with a birthday apricot tart from Bay Bread boulangerie.
The aforementioned cupcakes and piñata.
Lunch with Abe & Kat at Caffè Macs. I went all out and got an über sushi combo, including some yummy uni.
During a late...
Officially middle-aged
I turned thirty-eight today. As my friend Jim announced to me this morning: I’m officially middle-aged. I always thought the official start date of middle age was forty but with an expected life expectancy of seventy-six, maybe thirty-eight makes more sense.
I’m happy to report that even with a beautiful wife, two gorgeous girls and a mortgage, I still don’t feel middle-aged....
SF Days is dead. Long live SF Days.
My blog is dead.
It has been dead since July 9, 2006. That was when I last posted a note on it saying that I was switching to Vox. At the time, I switched for two reasons. First and foremost was Zornitza was working on it and I was showing familial support by switching from movabletype to it — of course, back when she was working on moveabletype I was using it to publish my blog. The second...
New Daytum Beta Tester →
I just got an account on Daytum. It’s a great new site that lets you keep lists of everything in your life. It’s great for feeding in the obsessive compulsive deep within oneself. Soon I will have bar charts of all the wine I drink, which modes of transportation I use most often and where I eat lunch at the most. It’ll be great. Nothing beats useless minutia.
One detail about...
